How Bri Barb’s Homemade was Born
Well….it all started with a bag of apples.
Growing up, my brother and I would spend time with our grandmother in rural Mississippi. During our visits, we would often pick figs, plums, and berries and preserve the fruits in jars. This became one of the things I looked forward to at Grandma’s every summer. She would send my brother and I home with an assortment of preserves and jams.
By the time I became a teenager, I’d become more interested in the process of canning and preserving. I didn’t want to just stand and lick the spoon anymore.
One particular day when I was sixteen, my grandmother offered me a large paper sack of Granny Smith apples to take home. Now, what was I to do with all those apples? At that moment, I felt like Bubba from the movie, Forrest Gump, was in my ear, listing all of the things you can do with apples. Grandma gave me the apples and my first box of Sure Jell pectin and told me to figure it out on my own. I ended up with Apple Jelly.
From that bag of apples BriBarbsHomemade Jams, Jellies, and preserves was born.
